Sizing and selection of batteries for stand-alone photovoltaic systems

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5278495
The process used to design battery subsystems for stand-alone photovoltaic systems is presented in two steps; sizing and selection. The sizing step gives the raw usable capacity required for the application. A nomographic technique and a computer simulation technique for sizing are reviewed. The second step, which is presented in a worksheet format, gives the final battery capacity and its configuration based on the characteristics of the selected cell and the working environment. A design example is given to illustrate the sizing and selection processes. 6 refs., 4 figs.
