After impregnating supports with palladium chloride and drying at 120/sup 0/C, the palladium was present as the tetrachloropalladate on g- and delta-alumina and on titanium dioxide, but as an aquocomplex and palladium dichloride on silica. After hydrogen-reducing for six hours at 300/sup 0/C, chlorine-containing palladium complexes remained on the surface; the chlorine-palladium ratio on alumina was 1:5; and it decreased in the order: alumina > titanium dioxide > silica.
