YAG:Nd/sup 3 +/ laser for study of high-speed processes

It is established that single ultrashort high-power light pulses can be generated in YAG:Nd/sup 3 +/ laser with passive mode locking without resonator unloading. Single ultrashort pulses with an energy of 20 mJ and a duration of approx. 500 psec are produced in the laser studied. The divergence of the laser beam, which was 6 mm in diameter, was, in this case, close to the diffraction-limited divergence.
