This work supports the development studies for atmospheric and pressurized fluidized-bed coal combustion. Laboratory studies and runs in an atmospheric process-development-scale combustor are aimed at providing information on the effects of water addition and chemical additives such as CaCl/sub 2/, NaCl, and Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ on (1) the degree of sulfation of limestone sorbent at various operating conditions and (2) the corrosion of candidate materials for fluidized-bed coal combustion facilities.
