Oil recovery by steam stimulation and in situ combustion

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5268654
A process is described for recovering oil from a subterranean formation containing a low-gravity crude utilizing a combination of steam and in situ combustion thermal-recovery techniques. Reverse in situ combustion is initiated spontaneously after the injection of steam sufficient to raise the temperature of the formation to a level at which spontaneous ignition of the hydrocarbons occurs upon injection of a combustion-supporting gas. After completion of this combustion operation, a forward in situ combustion is initiated. (10 claims)
