The first edition of this book was published in 1979. The new edition, completed in 1983, has been expanded with two aims in view: (i) to keep abreast of recent advances in the science and technology of exploration seismology while at the same time improving the coverage of a few subjects which had been given insufficient treatment in the first edition, and (ii) to provide a fuller treatment of basic theory to make the book more useful as a student text. The book is intended for the reader who needs an introduction to the seismic reflection method, especially in the oil industry, and for students of applied geophysics.
