Technological choices in less-developed countries: a policy-oriented model

Journal Article · · Sci. Public Policy; (United States)

U.S. foreign assistance programs are ambiguous because little is understood about the relationship between technology and the intervention mechanisms chosen for economic development in the less-developed countries (LDCs). A policy model is developed to show has LDCs can choose appropriate technologies and to demonstrate the importance of making these choices in a social context if development is to occur. The decision frameworks based on trickle down or stages of growth theories have had negative impacts on the economy, the environment, and society. The use of social framework, on the other hand, considers the nature of the technology, how it is to be used, and what are the anticipated results. (DCK)
