Elastic electron scattering as a test of self-consistent approaches in nuclear theory

It is shown that elastic electron scattering by nuclei is an important test of microscopic self-consistent approaches in nuclear theory. The Hartree-Fock method with the popular Skyrme SIII forces does not pass this test. The quasiparticle Lagrangian method and the Hartree-Fock method with the Tondeur forces lead to a much better description of electron cross sections.
