Economic impact of air pollutants on plants. Volume 1

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5254713
The Coordinating Research Council, in cooperation with Stanford Research Institute, developed gross estimates of economic losses resulting from the effects of air pollutants on plants. The estimates of loss were confined to losses caused by the direct effects of pollutants on yield, quality, and marketability of commercial crops and ornamental plant losses to commercial vendors. The relative resistance of 65 crop plants to fluorides, ozone, chlorine, nitrogen dioxide, PAN, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen sulfide was tabulated. Data for 65 SMSAs were compiled in an effort to identify the counties in the US in which the emissions were potentially damaging to plants. This report describes the results of the first year's effort.
