Decomposition of CH/sub 3/TiCl/sub 3/ complexes with pyridine-based ligands

The kinetics and mechanisms of the reactions of CH/sub 3/TiCl/sub 3/ with pyridine, ..gamma..-picoline, and 4-vinylpyridine were investigated. It was found that a homolytic break of the Ti-C bond takes place in CH/sub 3/TiCl/sub 3/ complexes with pyridine. It was established that, as a consequence of the decomposition of the Ti-C bond in CH/sub 3/TiCl/sub 3/ complexes with 4-vinylpyridine and with ..gamma..-picoline, the pyridine ring is metallized. The rate constants of this process were determined.
