Evidence for peroxide formation in superconducting YBa/sub 2/. sqrt. /sub x/La/sub x/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7//sub +- //sub delta/

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)

The sysetm YBa/sub 2/..sqrt../sub x/La/sub x/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7//sub +- //sub delta/(0less than or equal toxless than or equal to0.5), annealed to a maximum oxygen concentration under 1 atm of O/sub 2/, exhibits three distinct compositional ranges. (1) For 0less than or equal tox<0.05, the maximum oxygen concentration is O/sub 6.94 + 0.5//sub x/;the intercalated oxygen atoms are monomeric and T/sub c/ increases to 99 K at x = 0.05. (2) For 0.10less than or equal tox<0.5, the maximum oxygen concentration is O/sub 6.85 + 0.5//sub x/;beyond xapprox. =0.07 the additional oxygen appear to be intercalated as peroxide ions and T/sub c/ decreases linearly with x through a smooth orthorhombic-tetragonal phase transition at x = 0.30. (3) For 0.05less than or equal tox<0.10, a transition between the two regimes occurs
