The interaction of carbonaceous fillers (calcined petroleum coke, thermoanthracite, artificial graphite) when they are mixed with various hard-coal pitches has been studied with ultrasonic extraction of the pitch-coke compositions and calorimetric determination of the heat of wetting of carbonaceous powders by molten pitches. An influence of the nature of the filler and of the pitch binder on the heat of wetting and on the magnitude of the relative increase in the components insoluble in toluene and quinoline as compared with the initial pitch has been shown. With the aid of ultrasonic extraction, a substantial influence of oxidation by atmospheric oxygen on the change in the group composition of the binder on its mixing with a carbonaceous filler has been established. The heat effects of the wetting of the surfaces of carbonaceous fillers by molten hard-coal pitches have been determined. An influence on the heat of wetting of the nature of the carbonaceous filler adsorbent and of the properties of the pitch has been shown.
