gamma pi. scattering and pion polarizabilities

Relations between the ..gamma pi.. interaction cross sections and the electric and magnetic pion polarizabilities, which are valid in a sufficiently wide energy region (s< or approx. =10m/sup 2/) and do not imply ..cap alpha../sub ..pi../ = -..beta../sub ..pi../, are obtained. The ..gamma pi.. ..-->.. ..gamma pi.. process is shown to be more suitable for determination of the pion polarizabilities than the ..gamma gamma.. ..-->.. ..pi pi.. process.
