Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5231739
The Department of Energy is funding a study to sample, test and analyze coal impoundments in Alabama to determine the quantity of coal in place, and the quantity, and quality of recoverable coal in each impoundment. A second objective of the work is to sample the washery wastes currently discharging into the impoundments, and to determine the quantity and quality of coal recoverable. Drilling equipment and sampling methods are described. The four impoundments evaluated so far contain 1,951,000 tons of raw coal of which 761,000 tons of clean, marketable coal can be recovered.
