Colorado and the electric car. [Monograph]

Interest in electric cars has revived since the 1973-74 oil embargo as a way to reduce oil imports and lower US trade deficits. The current state-of-the-art limits pollution-free electric vehicles to urban use. Educating the public to accept the need for a cheaper and slower transportation mode is a major obstacle because people fear changes in their life styles. The majority of Colorado residents live on the flat plains, high plateaus, or relatively level mountain valleys where electric vehicles can meet 87% of their automotive needs. This book provides prospective consumers with basic information on how electric vehicles work and how to recharge batteries and maintain the vehicles. It describes current and experimental vehicles, projects purchase and operating costs, and lists five Colorado dealers. 4 references, 9 figures. (DCK)
