Electric car goes more than 100 miles in a day

Test runs on a commercially-available electric car concluded that an infrastructure for battery recharging is the major obstacle to commercialization. Battery improvements are desirable, but the system of biberonnage described by H.G. Mueller and V. Wouk (SAE Preprint No. 800204) could make electric vehicles (EVs) viable for local use with present technology. The test drives covered over 100 miles a day with periodic biberonnage at home, at the shopping center, and at friends' homes. Sample daily driving programs and battery-charging schedules are summarized in tables. (DCK)
