Anti-Stokes Raman lasers

The first observations of UV and VUV anti-Stokes Raman laser emission are reported. Anti-Stokes Raman scattering of 532 nm and 355 nm pump lasers using inverted metastable Tl atoms resulted in stimulated emission at 376 nm and 278 nm respectively. Also, a tunable 178 nm anti-Stokes laser using metastable I atoms has been constructed.
