Thin films of silicon on low-cost substrates. Quarterly project report No. 1, September 1, 1976--November 30, 1976

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5219110

The objective of this program is to perform intensive studies concerning thin films of silicon on low cost substrates as an initial step for the fabrication of low cost thin film solar cells of relatively high efficiency and long life. Efforts during this quarter have been directed to the preparation of metallurgical silicon substrates by unidirectional solidification on a graphite support, the deposition of silicon films on metallurgical silicon substrates by the thermal reduction of trichlorosilane containing appropriate dopants, the preparation and characterization of polycrystalline silicon solar cells, the measurement of minority carrier diffusion length, and the preparation and characterization of p-n junctions deposited on metallurgical silicon substrates.
