Quadrupole moments of 36 even-even isotopes of Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, Hf, and W are calculated by the Hartree-Fock method with Skyrme forces. The discrepancy between the calculated and experimental quadrupole moments does not exceed 10%. It is shown that the modification of the self-consistent field caused by addition of neutrons to the nucleus increases the quadrupole moments for Z=64--68, and decreases them for Z=72--74. For the isotopes with Z=70 one observes a more complicated dependence of deformation on the neutron number. Other nuclear characteristics such as the full energy, neutron and proton separation energies, and the mean square radii are also analyzed and compared with experiment.
