Landmark CO/sub 2/ injection project paying off at SACROC

Oil production in the Phase 1 pattern area of the SACROC unit in W. Texas' Kelly-Snyder field more than tripled during the first 18 mo. of a landmark CO/sub 2/ injection program--from 30,000 bpd in early 1972 to 100,000 bpd by Sept. 1973. Production from the entire field is expected to average 210,000 bpd during 1975. SACROC (Scurry Area Canyon Reef Operators Committee) is one of the biggest joint venture operations in the history of the U.S. petroleum industry. Chevron Oil Co.-- Western Division--is the operator. Because the amount of CO/sub 2/ available to the field is limited, the 50,000-acre SACROC unit has been divided into 3 geographic areas--Phases I, II, and III--so that the CO/sub 2/ injection could be alternately switched from the injection wells servicing the 9-spot injection patterns in one phase area to the injectors servicing like patterns in another phase area.
