Miscible displacement of petroleum using sequential addition of carbon disulfide and a hydrocarbon solvent

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5213081
A process is described for the recovery of petroleum from a reservoir by miscible displacement. The process involves introducing into the upper portion of a reservoir sequential slugs of different solvents capable of dissolving formation hydrocarbons. One of the solvent slugs has a density greater than water. The sequentially added solvent slugs are forced through the reservoir to some point lower than the point of introduction by means of an aqueous fluid and/or gas. The solvent and extracted fluids are produced from the reservoir at this point. The solvents in one slug are carbon disulfide or chlorinated hydrocarbons, and the solvents in another slug are aromatic hydrocarbons or aliphatic hydrocarbons. (3 claims)
