Miscible displacement of petroleum using carbon disulfide and a hydrocarbon solvent

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5213076
A miscible displacement process for the recovery of petroleum from a petroleum-bearing formation is performed in situ by the use of a solvent system miscible with the petroleum, the solvent system comprising carbon disulfide and a hydrocarbon solvent. A slug of solvent mixture is injected into the reservoir, which solvent has a density equal to or greater than water and is composed of carbon disulfide and an aromatic or aliphatic carbon. An aqueous driving fluid is injected into the reservoir, to force the solvent through the reservoir. The petroleum and solvent are produced at a point below the point of introduction of the solvent.
