Properties of various sapropels

A physicochemical investigation has been made of sapropels with the aim of determining the possibility of using them for the preparation of drilling muds. Chloroform, alkaline and acid extracts have been studied by spectral methods. The thermal stability of the sapropels investigated have been determined. The causes of the predominance of structure-formation in a finely detritic sapropel above other types has been elucidated.
