Analysis of the state of production of crude phenols at coking plants of the Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic and Kazakhstan
The production of phenols at coking plants consists of the phenols obtained when dephenolizing fractions of coal tar which boil at up to 300/sup 0/C, and from dephenolizing the (excess) tar water. Phenol production is determined by phenolcresol content in the starting products, and by the degree to which these are used. Coal tar is the principal source of the phenols (about 80% of the total output). During 1975-1981, phenol production as a whole at the plants decreased about 5%; however, the volume of the charge being coked during this period increased 2.8%. This took place principally due to a decrease in the extent of recovery of the phenols, and due to incomplete treatment of the initial products (tar and surplus tar water). The production of phenol from coal tar fractions and from tar water is discussed.
