Spin-flip systematics and spin-orbit potentials in heavy-ion inelastic scattering

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)

Systematics of the vertical-barmvertical-bar=1 population probability P/sub 1/ of /sup 24/Mg(2/sup +/) in the reaction /sup 24/Mg(/sup 13/C,/sup 13/C')/sup 24/Mg(2/sup +/) were studied using the coupled channels formalism. It was found that P/sub 1/ is sensitive only to the parameters of the spin-orbit potential and is determined essentially by the magnitude and the shape of the spin-orbit potential in the region of the strong absorption radius. The data require a significantly larger spin-orbit potential than that given by the folding model.
