The {ital c}-axis oriented YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub {ital x}} (YBCO) film has been epitaxially grown on Y{sub 2}O{sub 3} (001) substrates by {ital in} {ital situ} processing for the first time to our knowledge. The in-plane orientation relationship between YBCO and Y{sub 2}O{sub 3} is {l angle}110{r angle}YBCO{parallel}{l angle}100{r angle}Y{sub 2}O{sub 3}. The film exhibits, as deposited, {ital T}{sup 0}{sub {ital C}}=86.2 K, {Delta}{ital T}=1.2 K; {ital J}{sub {ital C}}=1.4{times}10{sup 7} and 2.0{times}10{sup 6} A/cm{sup 2} in a magnetic field of 0 and 5 T at 5 K, respectively. Moreover, the interface between the YBCO and Y{sub 2}O{sub 3} is very sharp and chemically stable.
