Synthesis of ZSM-5 zeolites in the C/sub 2/H/sub 5/OH-Na/sub 2/O-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/-SiO/sub 2/-H/sub 2/O system

ZSM-5 type zeolites have been synthesized using ethanol as template. The effect of initial gel composition (in terms of molar ratios H/sub 2/O/SiO/sub 2/, SiO/sub 2//Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, OH/sup -//SiO/sub 2/, and C/sub 2/H/sub 5/OH/SiO/sub 2/, with Na/sub 2/O/SiO/sub 2/ constant), temperature, stirring velocity, and seeding has been investigated. A semiempirical mathematical model for the kinetics of zeolite growth has been developed, reproducing the experimental data with deviations of less than 10%.
