Identified geological prospects in the Republic of Armenia are large enough to contain possible reserves of 6 billion bbl of oil and 6 tcf of natural gas. The question is whether these resources will ever be developed. Lacking capital, and with no means of exporting the oil and gas to generate capital, the Armenian government`s alternatives are limited. This article presents the circumstances in which Armenia finds itself, the steps taken to date in the process of developing the country`s oil and gas resources--including results of a study of the size of those resources--and a possible solution to the dilemma.
