Pennsylvania Electric Company installed new Low NO{sub x} Burners and a Coal Water Slurry Firing System, designed and supplied by EER Corporation, on Boiler 14 at the Seward Generating Station. Start-up testing on pulverized coal was completed during 1993 and coal water slurry testing will continue until May of 1994. This paper presents data summarizing the combustion and emissions control performance of the new burners firing pulverized coal and coal-water slurry over a range of boiler operating conditions. NO{sub x} emissions were reduced by approximately 45% with the new burners firing a low volatile pulverized coal and additional reductions have been demonstrated as a result of co-firing slurry.
