The North Sea oil exploration sparked the idea for a concrete gravity structure to support a drilling deck. Thirteen structures have been built. Of these, five are of the Condeep type, a concrete structure consisting of a base or caisson of 19 interconnected cylinders. Its construction and completion in deep water are described. Concrete quality is considered briefly. (DLC)
