Title: Mechanism of oxidative dehydrogenation of para-substituted and deuterated ethylbenzenes upon reduction of a fused KVO/sub 3/-V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ catalyst

A pulse reactor has been used to study the kinetics of oxidative dehydrogenation of para-substituted deuterated ethylbenzenes on a fused KVO/sub 3/-V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ catalyst. An excellent correlation has been found between the rate constants of the reactions and the resonance substituent constants; kinetic isotope effects have also been measured, and a mechanism has been proposed to account for the process.
