A review of current sources and treatment of waste waters from synthetic fuels plants based on peat and oil shale under consideration by the Synthetic Fuels Corporation covers a spectrum of projects. The three major factors determining the selection of a technology were the nature of the fossil fuel raw material, the nature of the fuel conversion process, and site-specific considerations. The result is little commonality in approach. Tables summarize and compare the range of approaches used by the individual projects. 2 references, 8 figures, 4 tables.
