Study of the mechanism of production of the. delta. /sup -/ isobar in the reaction. pi. /sup -/+d. -->. p+. delta. /sup -/ at high energy

At an initial momentum 3.65 GeV/c we have investigated the mechanism of production of the ..delta../sup -/(1232) isobar in the deuteron in the reaction ..pi../sup -/+d..-->..p+..delta../sup -/ with a large transfer of momentum from the ..pi../sup over-bar/ meson to the proton. On the assumption that the process is due to exchange of a ..delta../sup + +/ Reggeon in the U channel, we have estimated the ratio of the vertices g(d..--> delta../sup + +//sub r/..delta../sup -/)/g(d..-->..N/sub r/N) at Uapprox. =0.
