Lifetime of the 1. 04 MeV state in /sup 18/F

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
The lifetime of the 1.04 MeV (J/sup ..pi../=0/sup +/,T=1) state in /sup 18/F has been measured to be 2.7/sup +0.6//sub -0.4/ fs using the Doppler shift attenuation method through the /sup 18/O( p,n)/sup 18/F reaction. An /sup 18/O target implanted into Ta was used in the measurement. Experimental correction factors for the nuclear and electronic stopping powers were used in the deduction of the lifetime. Based on the revised lifetime, the predicted circular polarization P/sub ..gamma../(1.08 MeV) of the transition 1.08 MeV (0/sup -/,0) ..-->.. 0 MeV (1/sup +/,0) is related to the parity nonconserving matrix element <1.04(0/sup +/,1)vertical-barV/sup PNCts/vertical-bar1.08(0/sup -/,0)> by P/sub ..gamma../(108 MeV)= +- (5.8/sup +0.5//sub -0.7/) x 10/sup 3/ MeV/sup -1/<1.04(0/sup +/,1)vertical-barV/sup PNCts/vertical-bar1.08(0/sup -/,0)>.
