Operating experience with a two-stage H/sub 2/S scrubber using caustic soda

Hydrogen Sulfide (H/sub 2/S) and Carbon Dioxide (CO/sub 2/) are natural occurring gases produced along with crude oil in many oil fields in California. Natural gas when highly contaminated with these gases has very little commercial value and also causes safety, environmental, and corrosion problems in pipelines and equipment. It therefore must be treated before disposal or blending. The Bremer Fee lease multi-stage scrubber facility was built to remove H/sub 2/S from wellproduced sour gas streams, so that the resultant sweet low Btu gases could be disposed off by venting.
