Redetermination of the thermodynamics of the reactions (NH/sub 3/)/sub n/. SO/sub 2/(s) in equilibrium nNH/sub 3/(g) + SO/sub 2/ (g)

The reactions between NH/sub 3/ and SO/sub 2/ have been reexamined at temperatures between 5 and 45/sup 0/C. Previous values of the standard enthalpies and entropies of decomposition of the products have now been corrected. The reactions are (NH/sub 3/)/sub 2/.SO/sub 2/(s) in equilibrium 2NH/sub 3/(g) + SO/sub 2/(g) and NH/sub 3/.SO/sub 2/(s) in equilibrium NH/sub 3/(g) + SO/sub 2/(g). The thermodynamic parameters are ..delta..H/sub 1/ approx. = 33 kcal/mol/ ..delta..S/sub 1/ approx. = 87 cal/(mol K); ..delta..H/sub 2/ = 18.4 kcal/mol; ..delta..S/sub 2/ = 45.1 cal/(mol K). The uncertainty in the parameters is +/-10% for reaction 2 and at least +/-20% for reaction 1.
