Calibration of liquid provers using master meter and water draw methods

Conference · · Proc. Int. Sch. Hydrocarbon Meas.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5157362
The commonly used methods of calibrating provers are the ''water draw'' and the ''master meter'' (''reference prover'') methods. In order to attain the highest accuracy in the use of liquid meters, liquid provers are utilized. These provers are calibrated by either the water draw method or the master meter method. In either case the base volume determined is traceable to the National Bureau of Standards by means of the certified field standard measures. However, the real accuracy of the calibration depends upon the preservation of the integrity of the entire system. This includes the accuracy of thermometers and pressure gauges as well as positive seals in valves, sphere handling mechanisms and displacers. It includes reliable detectors with repeatability and high resolution and it especially depends upon an able, knowledgeable technician.
