High accuracy laboratory gas meter prover developed

Journal Article · · Pipeline Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6088903
Described is a new domestic gas meter proving system with an accuracy of + or - 0.05%. Test programs using the new device have revealed data concerning meter repeatability, short-term stability, and other operating characteristics that were masked by the current bell prover system. Provers will still use the bell as the volume displacer, but the bell will be operated through a variable speed d.c. motor and will transduce temperature and pressure conditions in much the same way as with the piston prover. Bell position or displaced volume will be transduced by a linear encoder with calibration being referenced to a high accuracy piston prover. Microprocessor-based electronics will also be able to calculate lot standard deviation for meter shipments as a quality control function.
