Entrained-bed gasification
This paper gives some reformations on the Totzek-gasification process in which the coal is fed to the reactor in the form of dust where it is converted in a very short time at high temperatures to form gas without by-products. On a commercial and industrial scale, entrained-bed gasification is now carried out by nearly atmospheric pressure according to a process developed by Friedrich Totzek. Within the framework of new and further developments of technologies for coal refining, entrained-bed gasification under pressure became a development project commencing from the middle of the Seventies. These development projects include the aim of carrying out gasification at higher pressures, for instance 30 bar. The results of the tests in the demonstration plant using entrained-bed pressurized gasification with dry feeding showed that with plants on commercial and industrial scales many advantages are expected compared to gasification at atmospheric pressure. Economic analysis of the new alternative is included. 4 refs.
