Piezoresistance measurements of YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7 minus x showing large magnitude and temporal anomalies between 100 and 300 K
- Physics Department, Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida 32306 (US)
The response of ceramic YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{ital x}} to a uniaxial switched static stress has been investigated by resistivity measurements. For a compressive stress {sigma}{le}1.5{times}10{sup 7} N/m{sup 2} (considered positive), the room-temperature piezoresistance coefficient was negative, and no time dependence ({ge}1 sec) was observed. For higher stresses the piezoresistance coefficient changed sign and reached the unusually large value of 2.5{times}10{sup {minus}8} m{sup 2}/N. In this stress regime the resistivity exhibited nearly reversible time-dependent growth or decay after the stress level was rapidly changed. Typical growth or relaxation times were {similar to}6--30 sec. The change in resistivity with stress showed a sign reversal at 220 K on cooling and was small below 150 K on warming. Hysteretic effects were observed on cooling and warming.
