Process for control of multistage catalyst regeneration with full then partial CO combustion

This patent describes a fluidized catalytic cracking process wherein a heavy hydrocarbon feed comprising hydrocarbons and sulfur and nitrogen compounds and having a boiling point above about 650 F. is catalytically cracked to lighter products. It comprises: catalytically cracking the feed in a catalytic cracking zone; separating the cracking zone effluent mixture; stripping the separated spent catalyst with a stripping gas; regenerating the stripped catalyst in a primary regeneration stage; discharging and separating the primary flue gas from partially regenerated catalyst; and recycling to the catalytic cracking process to regenerated catalyst.
