Mini transversely excited atmospheric /TEA/ CO2 lasers

Conference · · Proc. Soc. Photo-Opt. Instrum. Eng.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5142792
The history and development of mini-TEA CO/sub 2/ lasers are reviewed. The review begins with longitudinally pulsed waveguide lasers and leads up to the current state-of-the-art mini-TEA devices (less than 20-cm overall length) which produce more than 20 millijoules per pulse, single-mode, with an operating life of more than 2-million pulses. Particular consideration is given to lifetime considerations, and to isotope operation and some of the systems which currently use these lasers are described.
