Journal Article · · Rev. Sci. Instrum.; (United States)

A mini TEA CO/sub 2/ laser using a semiconductor preionizer is described. The laser will operate at a pulse repetition frequency greater than 5 kHz. At a pulse repetition frequency of 1 kHz a mean power output of 35 W can be maintained over extended periods. Burst mode operation of 10/sup 4/ shots at a pulse repetition frequency of 1.5 kHz can produce mean power in excess of 50 W.
