# O(. cap alpha. /sup 2/) corrections to muon lifetime, m/sub W/, and m/sub Z/ in the SU(2)/sub L/ x U(1) theory

## Abstract

We derive formulas for tau/sub ..mu../, m/sub W/, and m/sub Z/ in the SU(2)/sub L/ x U(1) theory which are valid through O(..cap alpha../sup 2/lnm), where m is a generic fermion mass; terms of O(..cap alpha..m/sub ..mu../ /sup 2//m/sub W/ /sup 2/) are neglected. The emphasis of the analysis is on the role played by fermion mass singularities. The final results are very simple: the radiative correction of the local V-A theory (through O(..cap alpha../sup 2/ln(m/sub ..mu..//m/sub e/))) factors out and the heavy particles induce a renormalization that can be expressed as an elementary function of the corresponding O(..cap alpha..) contribution slightly modified by fourth-order vacuum-polarization effects.
