Symmetry hierarchies and radiative corrections in the grand unified model SU(8)/sub L/ x SU(8)/sub R/

In the SU(8)/sub L/ x SU(8)/sub R/ model of precocious chiral unification, radiative corrections for the effective parameters sin/sup 2/theta/sub W/(..mu..) and ..cap alpha..(..mu..) are calculated in the one-loop approximation, neglecting contributions of the Higgs fields, and the unification mass M/sub 8/ is determined in the presence of a hierarchy of intermediate symmetries. It is shown that a natural hierarchy exists which leads to a decrease in sin/sup 2/theta/sub W/(M/sub W/L) down to the value sin/sup 2/theta/sub W/ = (1/5)--(1/4) together with a decrease in M/sub 8/ down to M/sub 8/ = 10/sup 6/--10/sup 7/ GeV in comparison with the values in the absence of a hierarchy.
