The differential cross section for the reaction ..pi../sup -/p-italic..-->..eta/sup 0/..delta../sup 0/(1232) has been measured in the region of momentum transfer from t-italic/sub min/ up to 0.3 (GeV/c-italic)/sup 2/. An appreciable minimum in the differential cross section is observed in the forward direction, which indicates a substantial role of the amplitude with helicity change. The experimental data were fitted by the function d-italicsigma/d-italict-italic = A-italic(1-g-italicC-italict-italic)exp(C-italict-italic), where g-italic is the ratio of the contributions of the scattering amplitudes with and without spin flip. The following values were found for A-italic, g-italic, and C-italic: A-italic = 44.0 +- 1.5 ..mu..b x (GeV/c-italic)/sup -2/, g-italic = 7.6 +- 0.4, C-italic = 4.8 +- 0.6 (GeV/c-italic)/sup -2/. The total cross section for the reaction ..pi../sup -/p-italic..-->..eta/sup 0/..delta../sup 0/(1232) agrees within experimental error with the prediction of isotopic invariance.
