Small hydro-electric power plants are becoming a reality. Today, in spite of institutional roadblocks, there are more than 200 small installations powering a range of homes, resorts, logging camps, fish hatcheries and farms throughout British Columbia. The potential for hydropower development in mountainous B.C. is discussed. However, B.C. is not the only place suited to low head hydro - any location that has a small stream with a continuous water flow, and the ability to establish a drop in elevation, can be harnessed.
