  1. British Columbia Hydro (Canada)

British Columbia Hydro (B.C. Hydro) is a low cost supplier of electricity in British Colombia, Canada. Currently, B.C. Hydro`s industrial customers pay an average of 2.3{cents} per kWh and residential customers pay an average of 4.5{cents} per kWh. Although the embedded cost of generation facilities is very low, the remote locations of hydro sites has required substantial investment in current and new resources is prominent among B.C. Hydro`s plans to remain the low cost preferred provide of electricity products and services to its customers. Furthermore, recent changes in the electricity market, advances in small scale modular generation technologies, and recent experience in the airline, telephone, and the banking industries point to increasing competition in the market for bulk power. In this market one of the competitive advantages is expected to be the development and use of distributed generation. This paper describes the author`s view of the B.C. Hydro`s strategy and initiatives on distributed resources.
