Process and apparatus for recovery of spent pulping liquors

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5127196
An integrated system for recovery of energy and chemicals from concentrated black liquor was described, consisting of a fluidized-bed reactor to provide the combustion of 80-90% of black sulfite liquor, a cyclone separator, a reducer for burning the solid combustion products from the fluidized-bed reactor, a gasifier (which is optional) for solid combustion products from the reactor, and a heat exchanger for removal of heat from effluent gases. Thus, 69-90% of C was utilized when kraft black liquor with approximately 67.5% solids content and air were introduced at 110-130 lb/hour and approximately 82 cubic meters/minute, respectively, into a fluidized bed reactor at 1280-1360 degrees F, and the combustion was carried out with approximately 715 lb black liquor for approximately 10 hours.
