EPRI-sponsored demonstration of signal validation at BWR and PWR nuclear stations

Conference · · IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5124859
The PWR project will validate most of the variables which a consensus of utility participants have identified as necessary inputs to the SPDS critical safety function algorithms. The host plant for the demonstration is the Northeast Utilities Millstone-2 Nuclear Station. Detailed designs are being executed for both Combustion Engineering and Westinghouse PWRs and modular, generic software will be available through EPRI and the Babcock and Wilcox Company at the project conclusion. The remainder of this paper is organized in four sections. In Section II, the basis and properties of the signal validation technique are described. Implementation issues are discussed briefly in Section III. In Section IV, we discuss some project issues related to the EPRI-sponsored demonstration at an operating BWR and an operating PWR nuclear station. Finally, Section V is devoted to a brief description of several personal computer (PC) based demonstrations of the signal validation technique and actual software.
